General Surgery

Every year ILAC Mission welcomes volunteer doctors from the American Hernia Society, who offer a weeklong surgical program to benefit persons of scant resources from the rural communities attended to by ILAC.

Thanks to this medical program which complies with quality standards of modern medicine, more than one hundred surgeries are performed in one week, using laparoscopic techniques and over 250 evaluations. This medical mission allows for an interchange of knowledge between local and international doctors, through live conferences that take place at the Center. Through these surgical programs many people are able to return to a productive life. Follow up for the patients is provided by local doctors through an inter-institutional agreement with the Hospital Regional Universitario José María Cabral y Báez de Santiago de los Caballeros.

This program has been strengthened by the well known and well thought of department of minimally invasive surgery from the Hospital of the University of Washington at St Louis, who at the beginning of each year initiate a similar medical mission with the volunteers from Creighton University.
